Benevento will be desperate for at least a point as the debutants welcome fellow struggling side Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon.

Le Streghe have had an absolutely nightmarish time so far in their first ever Serie A campaign. They not only are bottom of the table, but have yet to win a single game, setting a rather wanted record in the process. They are a whopping eight points behind the Neroverdi, who are only barely safe in 17th, but Sassuolo have lost three on the trot which may give Benevento some faint glimmer of hope.

It’s simple, really. Benevento need to start picking up points, and in all fairness, their fixture list has not been in their favor. So far they’ve had to take on Roma, Lazio, Inter and Napoli. They were, however, quite solid against Juventus and even grabbed the first goal to shock the Bianconeri. However, their lack of tactical nous led them to withdraw into their shell in a desperate attempt to hang on for all three points, and they had no response to when La Vecchia Signora came fighting back in the second half.

Sassuolo, of course, should be an opponent that is a lot closer to their level, although Benevento did take on Crotone earlier this season and lost that fixture 2-0. The Neroverdi, meanwhile, used to be known as the “giant killers of Serie A” thanks to their impressive results against the big teams, but that spell has long past. Any joy gained from a 1-0 win over SPAL quickly evaporated as they now have lost to Udinese, Napoli, and AC Milan. Will Benevento offer them the respite they need?

After their good start against Juventus, however, they hopefully will be able to take advantage of Sassuolo’s injury woes and finally earn some points.
