Sporting need a win against the already eliminated Olympiacos to stay in contention for the second spot. However, the hopes could end if Juventus bag a win against Barcelona.

Yet, the result against the Greek side could be key in determining who go through to the Europa League knock outs.

The Portuguese side are still looking for their first home win of the campaign. They did a good job by holding Juventus to a 1-1 draw last time up before losing to Barcelona by a narrow 1-0 margin. Their lone win in the tournament came on matchday 1 at Olympiacos.

Olympiacos earned their their first point of the campaign by holding Barcelona to a goal-less draw on matchday five. The conceded at least 2 goals in each of their three defeats.

The reverse of the corresponding fixture on matchday 1 is the lone meeting between the two sides. Sporting rushed to a three goal lead inside 45 minutes in the 3-2 win, while Felipe Pardo scored twice for the Greeks in the injury time to make the defeat look decent.

Sporting’s only other meeting with a Greek club in UEFA competitions was in 2004 against Panionios, 4-1 win at Lisbon.

Anyways, Olympiacos have been inconsistent in all competitions this season. Therefore, one must expect far too little from them here.
