Messi's brother runs like a wanderer
Last weekend, Messi's brother was taken to the Sanatorio Parque hospital for treatment of a series of jaw and facial injuries. Matias was rescued ashore after a drift in a motorboat on the Parana River near Rosario just before dawn on Nov. 30. Less than 24 hours in the hospital, the 35-year-old man was immediately questioned by police and watched all day and night to investigate the murky incident.
Police accuse Matias of engaging in armed conflict and bloodshed. The Matias motorboat also had many blood stains and a gun was found. Authorities believe that Messi's brother should be taken to prison as soon as he is fit to leave the hospital. Under Argentine law, Matias could be sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison for possession of illicit weapons and involvement in the investigation.
Matias' lawyer, Ignacio Carbone, asserted that the reason the client was hospitalized was not related to the incident and that the gun was found also not owned by Matias.
In October 2015, Matias was charged with possessing illegal weapons after the police discovered a unlicensed pistol in his Audi A5.
In October 2008, a similar incident occurred when a gun was found in his brother's private home. In April 2011, the 35-year-old escaped from a murder.
