Chievo vs Roma: Preview and Prediction
Chievo vs Roma
2017/18 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 10 December 2017
Kick-Off: 11:30 UK,
Venue: Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi (Verona).
Roma will be looking to cap off an excellent week as they take on Chievo on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The Giallorossi come into this game fresh off securing their spot in the round of 16 of this season’s Champions League. Most did not give them a chance of even getting out of a tough quartet that contained Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, but Eusebio Di Francesco’s side didn’t just qualify, they managed to top their group.
And now, the Lupi can turn their attention back to domestic affairs as they seek to close the gap on the top three sides, especially with Juventus and Inter squaring off on Saturday with one of those two set to drop points, whilst Napoli will be eager to recover from their own defeat to the Bianconeri last round as they face Fiorentina later on Sunday.
The visitors will have to make do without key midfielder Daniele De Rossi due to a ban, but they are facing a Chievo side who have won just one of their last five Serie A games. The Flying Donkeys come into this match having been humiliated 5-0 by Inter last weekend and were dumped out of the Coppa Italia by Hellas Verona recently, so their confidence is far from sky-high at the moment.
Although it’s well known that Chievo’s primary ambition is merely to achieve safety each season – and to get there, usually around 40 points are needed – the team’s wobbly form certainly will be somewhat disconcerting for both their manager and fans alike. Will they be able to contain a Roma side who will be flying high after a good result in midweek?
Chievo vs Roma: Head-to-head
- Roma are undefeated in 14 of their last 15 away matches against Chievo in all competitions
- Chievo have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 4 matches against Roma in all competitions
- Roma are undefeated in their last 13 away matches (they haven’t lost an away game since January)
- Their draw with Genoa marked their first time they have dropped points on the road in 12 Serie A matches
- Roma have scored at least 3 goals in their last 4 matches against Chievo in all competitions
Chievo vs Roma: Prediction
Although everyone knows that Chievo aren’t aiming for anything but safety each season, their bad form lately will surely be obviously really disconcerting for the team and their fans. They have put in some solid shifts at home, however, notably holding Napoli to a surprise scoreless draw.
So, Roma will hope that their exertions from midweek won’t have tired them out too much as they aim to pick up another away win and keep up pressure on the top three sides.
