Lazio will hope to recover from a bitter defeat in last weekend’s Derby della Capitale as they take on Fiorentina on Sunday evening.

It will come as a frustrating result for Simone Inzaghi’s side, who had lost just one game prior to that all season. That was a 4-1 defeat to Napoli, but nonetheless, the Aquile are very much still in the battle for a Champions League berth, and thanks to how congested things are at the top of the table, Lazio are even still in the hunt for the Scudetto. Fiorentina, by contrast can’t lay claim to that. The Viola aren’t even in the race for a Europa League spot, as they find themselves nine points behind sixth-placed Sampdoria who also have a game in hand.

The Gigliati are winless in their last three games and will be hoping to try to cause problems, but it’s hard to see them even doing that. Lazio come into this game having had a frustrating week but their loss to Roma was due to two very bad mistakes from defender Bastos, and Inzaghi opted to rest key players during their 1-1 draw with Vitesse as they had already qualified for the round of 32.

Inzaghi is expected to recall everyone of note for this clash for Fiorentina, which will not bode well for the visitors. They have lost four of their last six meetings with the Biancocelesti and to be honest, it’s hard to see them reversing that trend, especially in the form they are in right now.

Lazio are winless in their last two games across all competitions. That’s the first time this has happened all season and they will certainly not make it a third on Sunday.

Although Fiorentina have scored 11 goals in their last few away trips, eight of those goals came against the likes of Hellas Verona and Benevento, so it really has helped them pad their stats.

The Viola have been rather poor in their travels and they even managed to lose to Crotone. It’s safe to back Lazio for the win and for the Aquile to get back on track after a difficult week.
