Massimo Oddo’s first game in charge will see him welcome current league leaders Napoli to the Dacia Arena on Sunday afternoon. Not exactly the kind of match the 2006 World Cup winner would have wanted, but such is the situation he finds himself in following Luigi Delneri’s sacking.

The Zebrette have lost three out of their last five games and are just three points off the drop zone. The loss to Cagliari last weekend caused the club’s owners to fire Delneri in a bid to try to improve the team’s fortunes, but it’s hard to see how they will be able to do that against a Napoli side who have been pretty much flawless this season. Although the Partenopei did stumble to a surprise scoreless draw with Chievo, they rebounded well to cruise to a very comfortable win over Ukrainian outfit Shaktar in the Champions League to revive their European ambitions – although it seems like the Scudetto is their primary focus this term.

Napoli are still unbeaten in Serie A and are two points ahead of an equally high-flying Inter. More significant, they are four points ahead of reigning champs Juventus, so regardless of what happens in this fixture, they will still be ahead of La Vecchia Signora.

As for Udinese, they notably took on a ten man Juventus and still lost 6-2 at this ground, so the odds don’t bode well in their favor especially as Napoli have won nearly all of their away fixtures this season. The only one they failed to pick up all three points was during their 0-0 draw with Chievo.

That being said, Udinese have scored in over 90 per cent of their fixtures and so should be able to continue likewise here.

Dries Mertens has ten goals so far, thus continuing in the same red-hot vein of form
he was in last term when he bagged a whopping 28 goals in the league. Udinese may be able to grab a goal here as they have netted in most of their matches, but Napoli’s strong attack should wipe out any goal the Zebrette could nick.
